This author of two novels and several collections of short stories lived in Spainfor years, and his fantastical stories and novellas began appearing in 1987 in magazines and anthologies such as New England Review, Quarterly West, The MacGuffin, Nemonymous, Amazing Stories, Synergy, and Simulations. In 1995 he founded CLF, Council for the Literature of the Fantastic, whose object was to promote recognition of ignored work of literary quality in fantastic fiction. The project lasted through 1999, but has subsequently been taken up at other websites. He’s an active Member of the SFWA (Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America).

Pearlman re-casts ordinary objects and has a knack for giving historic events an unexpected twist or two. If you’re looking for an interesting ride, his stories are the ticket.

John grew up watching creature double feature with his brother on Saturday afternoons. This fueled his love of monsters, ghosts and the supernatural. He never missed an episode. In his spare time he loves to cook, garden, go to the theater to watch horror movies with his friends, read, talk about food, bake amazing desserts, play with his dog Buffy (yes named after the character in the TV show) and draw–albeit badly.

Some of his favorite TV shows and influences are The Twilight Zone, Tales from the Darkside, Space 1999, Battlestar Galactica, X-Files, Night Gallery, Monsters, Star Trek, and much more.

He completed a creative writing course at Boston’s Fisher College and is a member of the New England Horror Writers, a chapter of the Horror Writers Association.

Some of his more recent credits include Best New Zombie Tales Vol 1 by Books of the Dead Press, The Book of Cannibals by Living Dead Press, The Vermin Anthology, The Northern Haunts Anthology by Shroud Publishing, The Zombology Series by Library of the Living Dead Press, Morpheus Tales, Wrong World, The Willows, Alien Skin Magazine, Aurora Wolf and more.

Bonus Content: John Palisano answers Twitter listener questions!

Scary Scribes Episode 2 taught us we need to have a Twitter feed directly into the studio—our guest John Palisano, author of Nerves, got a few questions from listeners! John was nice enough to answer them for us after the fact, and we’re presenting them here as a bonus.

Questions

Did Hell Raiser or Clive Barker inspire your work?

Clive Barker is an enormous influence on my work. He’s a huge inspiration: when I read his stories, it makes me want to explore my own imagination to its fullest. I love how he straddles genres, like fantasy and horror. Of course, his writing is gorgeous. Hellraiser was not a direct influence on Nerves, although it is one of my favorite horror films and stories of his that I’ve read. If anything, I would say Nerves would be closer to Clive’s Weaveworld and/or Imajica.

Who would you want to play the main character on screen?

While I was writing Nerves I pictured a young John Malkovich as Josiah, complete with no hair, super-pale skin, and red eyes. I think Jackie Earle Haley would be amazing in the role. He’d really nail the anger and loneliness. As far as Horace? I always saw Ron Perlman, who I bet would be properly intense and troubled. I bet Doug Jones would make an amazing Ogam. He’d be charming and manipulative, but would then be able to turn on the pure, unhinged evil when the time is right.

Will the book be on the iBook store?

The e-book versions of Nerves will be released within 90 days of publication. It will be available in iBooks, Kindle, Nook, and any other format you may like. I’ll post the news on my site when it breaks (www.johnpalisano.com) and you can monitor Bad Moon, as well. (www.BadMoonBooks.com)

Reminiscent of Shirley Jackson’s “The Summer People,” humorist-turned-horror writer Stacey Longo’s “People Person” just might make you think twice your summer paradise.

Stacey’s short horror fiction has appeared in several scary anthologies, among them Malicious Deviance and Daily Bits of Flesh. She’s best known, though, for her zombie fiction—like “Wedding Day Blues,” in which a bride refuses to let her groom’s newly-dead status ruin her big day. Her zombie stories have been featured in the anthologies Zombidays: Festivities of the Flesheaters, Rapid Decomposition, and Hell Hath No Fury.
